trap/έ/ζῆν collective (the flower girls)
flower Project #3 (formal dinner)
participatory food performance / December 2013 / Adonis Volanakis residence / Athens, Greece
Within the context of the 1st BLIND8 in da house project hosted by Adonis Volanakis, Flower Project #3, a participatory performance by the Trapezin Collective took place. Adonis Volanakis acting as the host, the flower girls invited eleven individuals to a diner of flowers. All guests received formal mail invitations, asking them to attend a dinner, without knowing neither the rest of the participants or what was to be consumed.
At the same time, the flower girls where working feverishly, looking for the last blossoms of the year, in order to offer to their guests a memorable experience, both visual and tasteful. The dinner table, set up in abidance with all the proper rules implied by savoir faire. A butler was in charge of introducing the guests to the space, while the Flower Girls were acting as the servants of the house. (Service staff)
The evening was divided in three parts:
For the first part, the guests enjoyed a cocktail in a lobby space before they were led to the main hall, where the flower girls introduced themselves for the first time, leading the party to its second part. Three different courses were served followed by a dessert (all being in sync with the practices presented by the collective before. Beautiful flowers where used in both the cooking and the decorating processes of each dish. Adonis Volanakis read a small explanatory text to the group before mezzo-soprano Anna Pangalou magnificently sang "Spectre de la rose" and "the Rose", beautifully concluding the performative part of the evening. The last part of the night which was enhanced by the rich smells of flower liqueur and other beverages, the artists and their guest engaged to a symposium.
We, the Flower Girls, would like to give our regards to Adonis Volanakis, Anna Pangalou, our extraordinary butler Manos Vavadakis, Christina Karampampa for her indispensable helping hand and Vangelis Zakolikos for his help in documenting of this great experience.
Of course none of this would have happened without our guests, to whom we are deeply thankful, as with their presence they gave life to Flower Project #3
